강사님~~자기소개를 부탁 드립니다.^^

Hi there! My full name is Mercy Joy G. Guardian.
안녕! 내 이름은 머씨 조이 G 가디언이예요.

Most people call me "Mercy" but my family and friends call me "Joy".
사람들은 나를 머씨라고 부르는데 가족들과 친구들은 조이라고 불러요.

I got my name from my aunt who, at that time was desperate to have a daughter.
내 이름을 지어주신 분은 숙모신데요 내가 태어날 당시에 딸을 몹시도 갖고 싶었다고 합니다.

I used to live with my maternal grandmother in her home town when I was young,
나는 어려서 외할머니 고향집에서 살았어요.

but my parents took me back to the city for the year 2000.
그런데 2000년에 부모님이 나를 도시로 데리고 나오셨어요.

My grandmother’s upbringing  gave a great impact in my personality, especially when it comes to my values and faith.  
나의 성격 특히 가치관이나 신앙관에 있어 나를 어려서부터 길러주신 외할머니의 영향을 많이 받았습니다.

I grew up loving music.
나는 음악을 좋아하며 자랐습니다.

I consider myself  a “Music Enthusiast”, simply because I love it and it’s like a therapy to me.
나 스스로 음악광이란 생각이 들 정도예요. 왜냐하면 음악이 너무 좋고 나한테 음악은 힐링 그 자체라고 느껴져요.

My family and relatives influenced me not only in loving music more, but also, they inspired me to continually pursue my interest in singing and playing the guitar.
가족이나 친척의 영향으로 음악을 좋아하게 되었고 끊임없이 노래를 부르고 기타를 연주하도록 분위기를 만들어주셨습니다.

Not that I don’t patronize Filipino music, but I think listening to American songs helped me enhance my ability in speaking English.
필리핀 음악을 즐겨 듣지 않고 미국팝음악을 즐겨 들은 것이 나의 영어실력을 기르는데 도움이 된 것 같아요.

Apart from music, my hobby watching different American movies, also helped me broaden my knowledge in the language.
음악감상 외에도 미국 영화를 보는 것이 취미랍니다. 이 역시 내가 영어를 더 잘할 수 있게 해준 것 같아요.

It’s funny, but I must say it was an effective way in making my English ability better when I tried to imitate my favorite movie characters.
이 역시 내가 영어를 더 잘할 수 있게 해준 것 같아요. 영화 보는 것이 재미있기도 하지만 내가 좋아하는 영화배우를 흉내 내려고 하는 것이 내 영어실력향상에 도움이 많이 되었답니다.

I have been an ESL teacher since 2010.
나는 2010년부터 영어강사를 하고 있습니다.

I started working in a man to man academy as an ESL teacher as well as a home based online tutor in one of their dormitories for about two years, then I decided to work here for a greener pasture.
처음 2년간은 학생기숙사에서 영어과외를 했고 온라인과외도 했습니다. 그리고 지금은 푸른 초장과 같은 엔토영어에서 일하고 있습니다.

Before working on both academies, I was actively participating in different voluntary works in our areas and in our church that could help me be well-prepared when I start working an a Social work practitioner.
일을 하기 전까지는 교회에서 그리고 내가 사는 동네에서 자원봉사활동을 열심히 했습니다.

I majored Social Work in college because that's what my parents wanted me to pursue. However, what I really liked to study was Education major in English.
언젠가 사회복지사로 일하게 될 때를 대비하기 위한 것이었지요. 나는 부모님의 뜻을 따라 대학에서 사회복지학과에서 공부했습니다. 하지만 내가 정말 배우고 싶어했던 것은 영어교육이었습니다.

Eventually, I learned to appreciate my major especially when we're assigned to do community immersions and internship in different non-government institutions as well as poor and indigenous areas.
어쨌든 나는 다양한 종류의 비정부기관을 비롯하여 빈민가나 원주민지역 등에서 여러 가지 과정의 훈련을 통해 사회복지사 공부를 열심히 하였습니다.

From then on, I participated in different seminars and trainings related to my major.
때로는 각종 세미나와 훈련프로그램에도 참여하였습니다.

Somehow, even if I know how great my major was, I still felt the desire to teach others.
내 전공분야 공부가 재미있었습니다만 한편으론 가르치는 일에 대한 미련이 남아있는 것을 느꼈습니다.

There was always an underlying question,“ Is this what I really want to do?”. Blessedly, I met one of colleagues and introduced ESL teaching to me.
항상 이런 질문을 스스로 하고 했습니다. ‘이게 내가 진정 원하는 일인가?’ 놀랍게도 한 친구를 만났는데 나에게 영어강사를 해보는 게 어떠냐고 추천을 하는 것이었습니다.

I was very happy because finally, I got the opportunity to do what I really wanted.
마침내 내가 그렇게도 원하는 일을 할 기회를 얻게 된 것이지요.

It was somehow challenging and nerve-racking knowing that my students were foreigners.
영어강사를 한다는 일이 매우 도전적인 것이었지만 학생들이 외국인이라는 사실은 신경이 쓰이는 일입니다.

Gradually, I learned to enjoy and embrace my job.  Being in this kind of field is a breakthrough that I always treasure.
점차 내 일을 즐기고 있습니다. 지금 내가 하고 있는 영어강사 일은 나에게 있어 아주 소중한 인생의 의미라고 할 수 있습니다.
